Katie first came to yoga through marathon training in her early twenties seeking some flexibility and strength in her training regimen.
Upon first introduction, it didn’t necessarily stick.
Several years later, however, through a series of happy accidents for which she is eternally grateful, she landed in the teacher training program at Amara Yoga & Arts in Urbana, IL. She not only fell in love with the practice, but with all that she learned about herself in the process.
Over the last decade or so of Katie’s life, she has had varying relationships with her body and fitness. She grew up relatively overweight and lost roughly 60 pounds throughout her twenties. During this time she fell in love with running and started to feel more connected with her body. But it was yoga teacher training that really put her into her body in a new way.
All athletes are familiar with the discipline, mental fortitude and focus that yoga demands. This is why Katie believes yoga can be so easily intertwined in all kinds of training - whether you’re seeking to run a marathon, train for a big game or even just better your own physical fitness.
Katie has rarely felt so at home in her own skin. Every training session or Asana practice is a chance to give thanks to her body for all it does and all it continues to do. Through her work, she hopes to inspire the same passion for well-being in others.
